Missed the Sutherland Trail?
Many thanks to all of you who emailed me re. the television programme on The Sutherland Trail. I appreciate it greatly. For anyone who missed it, or for those of you from south of the Border, it’s now on the BBC’s i-Player. Check it out under The Adventure Show. It’s on the i-Player until Friday Jan 2.

Watched it with my parents and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. I hope there is more, as I was left wishing that was merely “episode 1″.

Great programme. Thanks for alerting me. The midges: perhaps you shouldn’t have worn black!

Thanks guys, delighted you enjoyed it. There will, hopefully, be a follow up but not, I suspect, until next Boxing Day. And Robin, you’re probably right about wearing black but I guess I could’ve worn any colour, the midgies were out to get me…

Enjoyed the show. I was wondering what poles you were using as they looked like flicklocks. I quite fancy having a go as my twist locks often slip.
Were you using trail shoes or lightweight boots on the walk? Are innov8 s not suitable for the terrain? I revert to light boots in winter and wondered if you did the same. thanks. By the way I enjoyed your lecture in Keswick recently.

Hi Greg,
I was using Black Diamond flicklock poles. Very good indeed - highly recommended. For much of the television walking I used lightweight Berghaus boots. There really wouldn’t be any problem using trail shoes like Innov-8’s as the vast majority of the route is on paths and tracks.

Guid New Year Cameron ,
I missed the `Sutherland Trail`and do not have the technology/gumption to pick it up on BBC`s i-player .
Is there, or will there be in future a DVD of the series which can be purchased ? , or perhaps made on offer as a fund raiser via the John Muir Trust ?
Yours aye

Hi John,
I’m sorry you missed the show. Afraid it’s now gone from the BBC i-Player too.
There will be a DVD available in a couple of months time, and a book later in the year. Incidentally, Director Richard Else and I will be talking about the making of the programme at this year’s Fort William Mountain Festival in March.

Hi Cameron. Just found your website and just a quick message to say how much my Dad - from Wales but a big fan of the Scottish hills - and I enjoyed the Sutherland Trail programme. Wondered if there’s any further info available about the route you took. Also very intrigued by the lightweight gear you carried - be very grateful if you had time to jot down a quick kit list. thanks. David
